About

Welcome to Thrifty Inspirations!

My name is Rachel and this is my home improvement blog!

I’m twenty-something and living in Northern Alabama with my husband of 4 years. It’s where I spend most of my days in the garage getting dirty and losing tools (did I just publicly admit that?)  I love thrift shopping and redecorating with refinished pieces I create along the way. I love anything that sparkles and shines! I try to keep all my projects budgeted because why pay more when you can do it for less? I have a mix of modern, meets shabby, meets traditional style home. I try to keep anything permanent neutral and then supplement with fun and fabulous textiles and accessories. Our home is constantly evolving. I love Pinterest and all the inspirations I find on it. It gives me hardcore ADD when it comes to focusing on one room at a time so my house can sometimes look like a tornado came through but eventually I pull it all together…And then tear it down again ;)

This is my hubby, Doug. We have been together since 2006 and married since 2008. I honestly can’t imagine my life without him. He’s one of those computer types who is really smart with technical stuff that I cannot begin to fathom. I will tell you right now this blog is 100% my own creation. I decided if I was going to blog then I wanted to be able to do it myself! He used to be afraid when I would say “Hey Babe, come look at this!” now he knows better and is always impressed with what I have come up with. While he doesn’t like to do any painting or making pretty things he is always a good helper for building projects and brainstorming technical details for just about anything. He is also my electrician, engineer, and technical specialist! We have tackled many a To-Do projects and even though we don’t always see eye to eye in the beginning the finished product is always gratifying knowing we did it together.

I love being outside and doing things with my hands. It’s always 100x more satisfying to get a project done yourself. My blog is dedicated to simple home improvement that is not only easy, but affordable.

I believe that if you do your work with all your heart, you will succeed.

(I actually got that as a fortune cookie once and I’ve kept it ever since!)

So there you have it.

I’m a little more crazy than you probably need to know, but that’s just ME!
